Adopt Don't Shop

You can find us every weekend at the York County Animal Shelter in York, South Carolina, hanging out with the coolest cats and dogs you’ll ever meet.

As a government-run shelter, funding is limited and resources are scarce. Our volunteer group, FYCAS, Friends of York County Animal Shelter, fields volunteers, donations, and events in support of the animals.

The initial intake photos of the animals are not appealing or attractive to potential adopters. These photos are taken sometimes on a cell phone or with point-and-shoot camera immediately when the animal arrives at the shelter. They are scared, in a new environment and often need immediate medical attention. That’s where we come in. We take them outside or in a play area to let them open up and show their personalities off. Since starting with FYCAS back in September 2017, we’ve helped save and adopt over 200 animals.

If you’re local please consider volunteering. Dogs always need walking and kitties always need ear scratches. Without volunteers, the animals remain in their cages. If you can’t volunteer we also accept donations of food, towels, toys etc. Please contact FYCAS if interested.

Please think outside of the breed. These cats and dogs have had a rough start in life and ended up here. Since space is limited unfortunately this shelter is one that practices euthanization when overcrowded.

And as always, please adopt from your local shelter and save a life. Current adoptable pets from the York County Animal Shelter are listed here on petharbor.com. Use zip code 29703 to find our shelter.
